On the 19th of May, 2007 the Day of Hansa was celebrated in Veliky Novgorod. It was devoted to the Youth Hansa movement development and summing-up results of the «Hanseatic Wave - 2007» contest.
11 creative teams took part in the contest. They made presentations of the following cities: Bremen, Hamburg, Hameln, Kiel, Lubeck, Munster (Germany), Kalmar (Sweden), King's Lynn (Great Britian), Riga, Pskow, and Smolensk (Russia). Their presentations included theatrical performances, songs, music, dances, boards with pictures and drawings.
6 other teams of students played the role of merchants that traveled from one hanseatic city to another, getting to know their culture, traditions, meals, and so on. Their task was to choose the most hospitable city. The results of this competition were the following: the best presentation was the one of Kalmar (Sweden); the second place was given to Kiel (Germany), and the third one - to Hamburg (Germany).
The teams of merchants were also evaluated. They had to pass through some special tasks, like «Hanseatic Gates» (historical quiz), «Military stand» (archery tournament), and «Hanseatic round dance» (studding of a medieval European dance). At the end the best team of merchants got a ship made of birch bark as the first prize.
