Новгород On-Line

From Novgorod to Zwolle and from Bergen to La Rochelle - all young people in the hanseatic cities do listen to music and many of them make music themselves. To force the intercultural exchange the youth delegates from Lubeck suggested putting the self-made music from the youth of different cities and countries together on one CD. But it is not only the music. The CD would contain information about the bands and the cities they come from, too.

This project addresses to youth bands which members are at the age of 16 to 25 (it’s the «youthHansa age» since the delegates of the cities have to be at that age too).

Every kind of music is welcome! It can be rock, classic, pop, rap or whatever. But two things are really important:
• The song has to be written by the band themselves.
• The song has to be in the native language of the country the bands belong to.

9 Veliky Novgorod music bands took part in the local competition for the right to be recorded on this CD. As the result of this contest the Song «Winter» by «Shambala» music band will be send to Germany to be recorded on the Youth Hansa CD.

The band “Shambala” plays dance music with “social” lyrics about love to life, freedom and justice.

Different music trends, such as rhythm-and-blues, garage punk, psychedelic rock, rockabilly, ska and latino are combined in their creative work.

For 10 years of its existence the band performed in Russia (Novgorod and Novgorod region, St. Petersburg, Pskov, Nizhny Novgorod, Vologda and Arhangelsk regions) and Estonia (Tallinn, Narva). In all they gave more than 130 concerts.

In 2004 the debut album «NO PASARAN» was released. It includes the best songs written from 1996 to 2004. In 2007 the second album will be recorded.

Besides playing music the band members are very active in social life of Veliky Novgorod. They support and organize ecological, youth, and social events.
