On the 17th of May, 2008 the Day of Hansa was organized on the Victory (Sophia) square in Veliky Novgorod. It was the day of the Hanseatic cities’ solidarity, which is traditionally carried out once a year on the same day in many cities of the Hanseatic Union of Modern Times. In Veliky Novgorod the Day of Hansa was celebrated for the 3d time.

The aim of the celebration was to spread information about the hanseatic movement and traditions. Celebration as a creative action was organized by the local Youth Hansa coordination group «Youth Hansa – Veliky Novgorod».

In program of celebration there was installation of the Novgorod Hanseatic days’ emblem, contest of drawings on the pavement, hanseatic quiz, workshop on medieval European dances, and so on. Celebration was finished by releasing of colored balloons with invitations for delegates from all the hanseatic cities.
